Cruise Impact Study

The Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Foundation (SSTF) is conducting a ‘Direct Economic and Specific Environmental Impact Assessment of the cruise activities in Seychelles’ Inner Islands, in relation to the Marine Protected Areas‘ funded by the Seychelles Climate Change Adaptation Trust Fund (SeyCCAT).

With the endorsement of the Department of Tourism and the Seychelles Ports Authority, we assembled an experienced team consisting of BERI, mascontour and international cruise expert professor Julia Beelitz, coordinated by Fatime Kante and Diana Körner. This project will run for 16 months and will involve extensive stakeholder consultations and data collection among cruise passengers in the Inner Islands. In order to ensure a multi-stakeholder participatory research process and allow the study to benefit a range of key cruise stakeholders, a Cruise Committee was formed consisting of stakeholders from public and private sector, NGOs and academia who will be consulted and engaged with throughout the study. SSTF wishes to ensure that the data gathered is useful and can help evidence-based policy making and management of the sector going forward.
